Songwriting Recordings Guide

Hiya all. The winter holidays are quickly approaching, so that means it is time to get our recordings in for the concert!
Recordings are due the 22nd of November, that way we have time to edit them all together.

Here’s a quick guide to recording.

Step 1: Practice along to the track provided below.

When you feel ready, set up your recording space. For that you’ll need.

A quiet space, that doesn’t echo.
That means living rooms/bedrooms are best.
No kitchens or bathrooms as the tiles make it echo.
Make sure windows are closed and that you have the room to yourself, as it will pick up people chatting.

A location to prop up a phone/ laptop to record. Living room tables in front of couches can work well.

Note phones tend to be better quality, laptops have poor mics.

Headphones! Headphones are very important because if we hear the backing track in the recording, it gets hard to edit.

Once you’ve found a good quiet set up that works for you its time to get going!

For recording, sing along to the backing track provided.

Audio vs video.

If you’d like you can record audio and video separately. This allows you to focus on singing well in one, and looking good in the other. To do that, just record yourself singing to the provided track, and then take a new video where you lipsync to your own recording!

Tips for what to wear: No uniform! Plain colours work best, festive colours are fine, but preferably not holiday jumpers as it is a song that can be enjoyed outside of the holiday season too.
Basically wear something that makes you feel comfortable on video.

Submitting videos. Please upload to wetransfer, and send a link to admin@ama-zingharmonies.org.uk
Please CC amazingharmonies@gmail.com to make sure we get it.

Lyrics

Things were once but now they’re gone
A part of me I cannot see
Wherever now its journey on,
It’s imprint left a shape in me

Missing home far away
Searching for something more than grey
Warmth it comes from close to home
Bring hope’s spring to me

Space by time or place it aches
The unknown of seeing you,
Alone, my confidence it shakes
The journey I must see through

Missing home far away
Searching for something more than grey
Warmth it comes from close to home
Bring hope’s spring to me

Being hopeful, with time in view
Spring once again to see
Persevere to guide us through
Lighting up the dark in me

Missing home far away
Searching for something more than grey
Warmth it comes from close to home
Bring hope’s spring to me
Missing home far away
Searching for something more than grey
Warmth it comes from close to home
Bring hope’s spring to me
